Dr. Ajmone is a clinical psychologist and a psychotherapist.
He is the founder and first president of OISM, the Italian Observatory on Mental Health.

Dr Ajmone is actively engaged in the defence of human rights in mental health. Strongly refusing the medical model of «mental illness», as well as the concept of «mental illness» itself, Dr Ajmone has been a leading pioneer in Italy, questioning the therapeutic efficacy of psychiatric drugs and exposing their harmfulness.

His unceasing work of research has brought to the attention of the Italian scientific community, first, and subsequently to the public opinion, the corruption of the scientific method perpetuated into the academic world by the drug companies, which promote the indiscriminate prescription of harmful and non-curative drugs. This research has brought to light the serious conflict of interests which lies at the foundation of the present day crisis of psychiatry and medicine — a conflict which, starting at the roots of international politics, embraces the whole fabric of society; undermining the foundations of education, healthcare, democracy and even individual liberty.
